This is the building that holds up to it's expectations. This is the building that sells out no matter what is going on. This is the building that is full of glory and potential. This is the home of the hottest team in Canada the London Knights. This is the John Labatt Centre. Before you click on the fantastic picture witch will take you directly to the official page check out the rest of the page and then you can go and take a look at why London is so proud of it is very impressive you will not be let down.

The John Labatt Centre is a new multi-purpose facility whose focus is on both entertainment and sports. The facility is an arena, which is scheduled to open October 11 2002. The centre is a "flagship" located in downtown London and will be one of the catalysts in the redevelopment of London's downtown. The facility seats 9,000 for hockey and ice events and over 10,000 for concerts, family shows and other events. The facility has 1,000 premium club seats as well as 38 private luxury suites, 5 Group Sales Suites and is the largest arena in South Western Ontario. The building, which has the largest seating capacity between Toronto and Detroit, has several unique qualities:

  • It has been constructed in the heart of downtown London and its exterior design incorporates a replica of the facade of the old Talbot Inn, a 19th Century Inn with that of a "state of the art" entertainment and sports facility.
  • In addition to having the ability to accomodate both End and Centre Stage productions, the new facility has been designed to accommodate touring Broadway Shows. The theatre setting has the abillity to seat 2800 people and is complete with a 30 line fly grid.
  • It's design reflects many of the features found in larger facilities
  • The facility has been designed to exceed the Ontario Building Code requirements to accessibility. The facility more closely meets ADA requirements. There is accessible seating on every level.
  • The facility exceeds the Ontario Building Code requirements for washrooms by approximately 55%

The History of the building and Features

The facility seats 9,000 for hockey and ice events and over 10,000 for concerts, family shows and other events. The facility has 1,000 premium club seats, 38 private luxury suites and 5 Group Sales Suites. The building has several unique qualities:

The John Labatt Centre is the home of a Junior "A" hockey team, The London Knights.

                                                         Features

Score Board - The John Labatt Centre has a Nevco center-hung scoreboard measuring 16' x 16' with a four sided Tribar 12/5 mm pitch LED video screen producing 7,000 NITS of brightness. Each screen is 8' x 7'. Each side has an 8' x 2' illuminated ad panel below the scoreboard and a four-face scrolling ad panel below the scoreboard. In its raised position, 10' of the scoreboard remains visible below the low steel. There are also two auxiliary LED full-colour "bowl ring" scoreboards with full video capability. The arena has an outdoor communication tower wtih video capabilities.

Rigging -  The distance from the arena floor to the roof is 70'. Distance from floor to the low steel is 58'. The total rigging weight for an end stage configuration is 95,000 lbs.; it is also 95,000 lbs for a centre stage configuration. Rigging weight for the theatre setting is 65,000 lbs. All the structural steel is divided into 10' x 10' quadrants to reduce the amount of bridling. Arena rigging plans are available from the Operations Office. All rigging plans, including the weight of each point, must be submitted to and approved by the Arena Management prior to load in.

Sound system and Mixer - The John Labatt Centre house sound system provides a full range of high power sound to all seats and concourse levels in the arena. The system is made up of custom, full range, distributed speakers suspended from the arena roof. There is a single compact disc player, dual cassette deck, mixing board, microphone, wireless microphone, and a Clear Com (split channel). The sound control room is located on Level 200 in the southwest corner. The arena is also equipped with an in-house listening device system for the hearing impaired.

The standard mix size 16' x 24' , height can vary from 14" to 24" (size is at the discretion of the show).

Locks and Keys - Locker/dressing rooms may be secured with locks and keys. Keys for each room may be checked out through the Event Co-ordinator. All persons who sign out keys will be responsible for return of the keys at the conclusion of the event.

Load-in - Show load-in is located at the Southwest end of the arena, approximately 75' from the arena floor. There are three (3) loading docks with two (2) load levelers and dock seals and one (1) drive-in ramp that provides access to the arena floor. There is adequate parking for fifteen (15) buses or trucks outside the load-in area. There is a secure lot away from the building for storage of extra trailers, if needed.

Spotlights and Lighting - General Lighting. The house light controls are located in the sound room at the southwest end of Level 200. The house lights are computer controlled and are fully dimmable. The spot lighting consists of 112 - 1000 watt metal halide lights. The fixtures are controlled in sets of 2. Maximum lighting for events is 100 verticle foot-candles and 220 horizontal foot-candles

Spotlights The John Labatt Centre has six (6) Xenon spotlights. All spotlight platforms are easily accessed below the catwalk around the perimeter of the arena floor. Additional spotlights can be rented at the show's request.

Forklift - The arena owns one 6000 lb and one 5000 lb forklift that are available for rent. They are propane fueled and have a lift height of 17 feet. Fork length is 4 feet (6 feet with extensions).

Seating and Accessibility - The seats in the first 8 rows of the west end of the lower bowl are retractable. We also have the ability to retract the first two rows of seating in the remainder of the lower bowl. Accessibility

All entrances to the building are wheelchair accessible. Designated parking is conveniently located in the parking lot adjacent to the Main Entrance. Four elevators providing access between levels are available inside the arena. Wheelchair seating is available on all levels of the building. The facility is equipped with an in-house listening device system for the hearing impaired that can be obtained from our Guest Services Office at Gate 1.

Dressing Rooms - There are four (4) large locker rooms: one (1) at 757 sq. ft., one (1) at 645 sq. ft., and two (2) at 490 sq. ft. each. All of the locker rooms are located in the backstage area and are equipped with four phone lines and shower and washroom facilities.

There are also five (5) Meeting Rooms, 500 sq. ft. (1), 340 sq. ft. (2) and 300 sq. ft. (2) that are available on Level 200. All rooms are located backstage and are accessed by a non-public elevator. Each room has 2 phone lines and convenient access to washroom facilities.

Catering Room - A Catering/Meeting room that is approximately 775 square feet, with 12 phone lines, a washroom and a kitchen counter, is available for show use.

Parking - The John Labatt Centre has over 8000 parking spaces within walking distance of the building.


 

So when you come in or are going through London please come in a check out the JLC over on Dundas street you can't miss it. Even if you don't have plans of going to or through London then make some arrangments to get down it is that good to see for the first time. The you will have a reason to come to London over and over again.
